Sandra Adkin Wagner, 79, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2023, at Golden Orchards Assisted Living Facility in Fennville, Michigan where she was surrounded by many wonderful friends and staff. Sandi was born July 15, 1943 to the late Bill and Anne (Holthof) Adkin in South Haven, Michigan. Sandi spent about half her life in the Fennville-Holland area then moved to Texas where she met her late husband, Howard Wagner, and had 28 wonderful years together.
Sandi was a proud member of the Fennville Class of 1961 and always loved getting together with any of them whenever she could. She also loved to dance and before her health would not permit, she would dance wherever and whenever she heard music. Sandi retired from the Comanche County Sherriff’s department where she worked for many years as a jailer. She was very active in the American Legion Post 487 in Priddy, Texas serving as Auxiliary Chaplin, District President and several other offices. She made some wonderful lifelong friends all over the country.
Sandi was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Wagner; her parents, Bill and Anne Adkin; her stepdaughter, Julie Dunn; and her nephew, Trannon Grigg.
Sandi was small in stature but had a heart as big as gold, especially for all veterans. She never met a stranger and never passed up an opportunity to thank a Veteran for his or her service.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sisters and brother, Chris (Don) Jones, Connee (Len) Laaksonen and Tom Adkin; one stepson, Jeff (Lesley) Wagner; and one stepson-in-law, Peter Dunn; five grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin) Shyebem, Savannah and Cody Wagner and Tara and Heath Dunn; and three great-grandchildren, Maddie, Mila and Koa Shyebem; along with many nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, Sandi has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will take place in the summer.
