Maria "Mary" (Diaz) Batey

Maria “Mary” Batey went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2023.  Mary was born on September 29, 1951 in Mission, Texas to Genaro and Isabel Diaz.  Mary loved the Lord; she was always praying for the ones in need of prayer.  She loved all of her family and spent time with them whenever invited. Mary enjoyed cooking some of the meals that she learned from her Mom, and she spent special time working with her flowers, helping them into God’s beautiful creation.  Mary was like her Dad, she loved baseball.  She was always ready to spend time with her husband, Scott, and her son, Joey, watching her favorite team (the Detroit Tigers) play.

Mary is survived by her husband, Scott Batey; son, Joey Batey; brothers, Jessie Diaz, Mario Diaz, Joe Diaz, Refugio Diaz, and Genaro Jr. Diaz; sisters, Francis (Delphis) Stokes, Carmen (Francisco) Sanchez and Teresa (Fiaola) Tufono; brother-in-law, Primo Jimenez; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Genaro and Isabel Diaz; brother, Juan “John” Diaz; and sister, Guadalupe Jimenez.

Mary, we will always treasure the good times we had with you in our hearts.

Friends may meet with the family at the Chappell Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  Burial will take place in the Fennville Cemetery.
