Leandro Hernandez Obituary

Leandro Hernandez, 74 of Fennville, Michigan, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at his home. Born February 27, 1948 in Edcouch, Texas, he was the son of the late Tiburcio and Maria (Martinez) Hernandez, Leo was the oldest of 12, 6 boys and 6 girls, and the husband of Susie (Valderas) Hernandez.  Leandro was a truly giving man. Throughout his life, he thought it was important to help others, Leo spent over 40 years working with migrants and immigration rights, he spent over 25 years volunteering and fundraising for Wings of Hope Hospice and over 20 years for the VFW Post 6134 in Pullman. Being dedicated to his Lord and a member of San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Church, he became the first Knight at the church when the Knights of Columbus were formed and helped with fundraising events.  In his community Leo helped along with other community members to set up a soccer team, helping to organize and build one, which was later adopted into the school’s sports program. Leo was a fun-loving man who enjoyed his tequila and dancing, which some say he was the Fred Astaire on the dance floor with his wife, Susie, being his Ginger.  Love and marriage and raising his family with Susie by his side brought joy to Leo’s life.  Seeing his family grow and being involved in their lives truly meant the world to him. Leandro also enjoyed being with his dogs, early on he always had larger dogs, but as the years passed, he loved having the little lap dogs to cuddle. His kindness, generosity, and charismatic nature are traits that Leo’s family will cherish forever.

Along with his wife of 56 years, Jesusa “Susie,” Leo is survived by his children, Maria Teresa, Leandro Jr., Santiaga, and Marco Antonio; his grandchildren, Sergio Jr., Favian Angel, Alejandra Paz, Monserat, Xiomara, Yajira, Zariela, Santiago, and Leandro III; his great-grandchildren, Jazmyn, Xiaver “Doc”, and Ileana; and his siblings, Lazaro, Pedro, Tiburcio Jr., Maria de los Angeles, Ana, Yolanda, Rosalina, Miguel Angel, Abel, Celia, and Carmen. Also, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins
