Katherine Decker Obituary

Katherine Louise Decker, 72 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  Born February 18, 1950 in Douglas, Michigan, she is a daughter of the late Clyde and Katherine (Higgins) McKellips.  Kathy relished the simple things in life and thoroughly enjoyed keeping things light and easy.  She was a compassionate and empathetic caregiver for others.  This brought fulfillment to her life.  Kathy enjoyed, and was extremely talented at, remodeling, interior decorating, painting and updating homes.  She was able to add so much of herself into these projects.  Seeing others appreciating her special touches brought much joy to her life.  In her spare time, Kathy enjoyed sewing, reupholstering and knitting, always creating something beautiful.  Her gentle spirit and kind nature made people feel at ease.  She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s events, taking them on trips and spending time with them.  Her beautiful soul is now watching over them and her loved ones.  Kathy is smiling down at the wonderful family she helped to create, who already miss her dearly.  Kathy was of strong Christian faith and is certainly with our Lord and Savior.

Kathy is survived by her two daughters, Cassandra Gean (Cassie) Decker of Fennville and Lisa Lynn (Michael) VandeGuchte of Garden City; former husband of forty years, John James Decker of Gladwin; her brother, David (Sally) McKellips of Fennville; her sisters, Donna (Jim) Earl of Fennville, and Julie (Arnie) DeRoo of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Pat (Ron) McKellips of Fennville; her five precious grandchildren, listed in birth order, Michael John VandeGuchte (Brooke Burns) of Lansing, Raj (Ishita) Pradeep of Warren, Quinn Thomas Tilton of Fennville, Jared Martin VandeGuchte of Garden City, and Alexandria Renee Decker of Fennville; as well as eleven nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and several first cousins whom she loved like brothers and sisters.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Kate; brother, Roland (Ron); and baby sister, Joan Katherine McKellips.
