Eugene Binder Obituary

Eugene Michael Binder, 97 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023, in Holland, MI.  Born on February 11, 1926, in Ganges Township, MI, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Malecki) Binder and the husband of the late Beverly (St. John) Binder.

Eugene graduated from LC Mohr High School, South Haven, MI, Class of 1944. He furthered his education by attending college, demonstrating an early commitment to learning and personal growth. His dedication to service led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably for four years as an Aerial Gunner. His time in the Air Force instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and discipline that guided him throughout his life.

After his military service, Eugene found his calling in Fennville, MI, where he worked as a butcher for over 50 years. He co-owned Van Hartesveldt's, which later became the Village Market (Wagoner’s). His work in the community extended beyond his business, as he served as the Mayor of Fennville in the 70’s, demonstrating his commitment to public service and community engagement. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Peter’s Catholic Church and an active member of the American Legion, further testament to his dedication to service and community.

Eugene's life was not solely defined by his work and service; he was also a devoted family man. He was married to his beloved wife, Beverly (St. John) Binder, for 63 years before her passing. Their deep love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Michael (Paula) Binder and Cathy (David) Gibson. The joy of Eugene's life was his family, including his five grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Herrema, Scott Binder, Kurt (Jenny) Binder, Michael (Nicole) Gibson, and Stacey Gibson, and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his three siblings, William Binder, Marie Patulski, and George Binder.

Eugene was a man who lived life to the fullest. He had a profound love for the great outdoors and enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting, fishing, boating, and water skiing. His adventurous spirit and love for nature were infectious, inspiring those around him to appreciate the beauty of the world.
