Bonnie Kay (Hughes) Nicholas, 81, of Fennville,
Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home on
Saturday, April 1, 2023, surrounded by family. Bonnie
was born February 28, 1942 in Madison, Wisconsin to

Hughes.
Bonnie enjoyed many activities throughout her life. She
cherished the time spent and stories shared with
travelers that visited the Michigan Bed and Breakfast/
Inn owned and managed together with her beloved
husband James. She developed a passion for interior design and spent many hours planning
and decorating both the Inn and her own home with love. Bonnie looked forward to her days
sailing, gardening, golfing, and traveling to the winter homes she shared with Jim in Sarasota
and Everglades City, FL. Bonnie’s passion for travel also took her to many far away locations,
including Costa Rica, Italy, Greece, Germany and Britain, but she called Michigan and the
Midwest her home There, she treasured the change of seasons, most specifically seeing the fall
colors and the beautiful snow. The Christmas season was Bonnie’s favorite, as it meant that she
would spend time around the Christmas tree with her loving husband, children and
grandchildren.
Bonnie is survived by her dear husband James Nicholas, her beloved children Cristi L. Nelson
and Jeffrey J. Nelson (Nina), her adored grandchildren Matthew and Ryan, her sister Joanne
(John) Boekleman as well as her niece, Jackie (Vinnie) Alcazaren.
