V. Evelyn (Modrzejewski) Leja, age 94, is forever again with her husband. Evelyn passed away February 11, 2018, in Fennville, Michigan. Born February 14, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann Modrzejewski. She was a card playing extraordinaire, great cook and baker, loved to volunteer at the Christian Neighbors, enjoyed shopping, but will be forever remembered as an amazing mother of five children. Evelyn lived in the Fennville area for many years and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She is reunited with her husband of 64 years, Michael W. Leja, who passed in August of 2012. Surviving are her children, Phillip Leja, Melanie (Donald) Workman, Donna (John) McNeil, and Lori (Jim) VanKlompenberg; her grandchildren, Ed, Brian, Phillip, Jeffery, Jolene, Lea, Shea, and Carlie; and five great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Evelyn is preceded in death by her son, Michael Joseph Leja; daughter-in-law, Denise Leja; her granddaughter, Julie Workman; and her siblings. A visitation will be held at Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St, Fennville, MI 49408, on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 2 PM to 4 PM and resuming again at 6 PM to 8 PM, with Rosary at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 100 St. Peters Dr, Douglas, MI 49406 on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11 AM, with a visitation one hour prior to service, with Fr. Fabio Garzon officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Saugatuck, MI, following service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, PO Box 248, Douglas, MI 49406.
