TOM TUCKER a?" A MAN OF HIS TIME Thomas K. Tucker, born in Chicago, Illinois on April 24, 1926, passed away on December 27, 2010. A memorial service will be held at Chappell Funeral Home on December 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. An online registry is available at www.chappellfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Holland. Tom graduated from Fennville High School and attended Western Michigan University. He was a quintessential man of great diversity with considerable skills and talents. Tom worked at the Fennville Herald during high school in all phases of the printing process. In college Tom played first Chair Cornet in WMU's marching band. In the forties, Tom formed a small combo band. An accomplished musician, he sang and played coronet and trumpet with his band at WMU. They played at the Vets Club in Paw Paw on weekends. Later, he played the trumpet at the Tara Club in Saugatuck and in concert directed by Morton Gould at WMU. He also played with the Jack Jerome band at the Club Seville in Grand Rapids. His many achievements included; President of the Alumni Association at the Fennville High School, past President of the Chamber of Commerce, past President of the Lions Club, on the Board of Directors of Hutchins Lake and Executive Director of the Goose Festival for eight years. He was also the Grand Marshal of the Goose Festival Parade three different years. From 1959 to 1962 he raced cars and was owner of a car dealership. In 1978 he was honored as one of the top 10 salesmen with Porsche/Audi throughout the Midwest. In the '80's Tom worked as a salesman and manager of an appliance store in Libertyville, IL. In 1990 he returned to Fennville permanently. In 2004 he was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award by the Fennville Chamber of Commerce. The Tucker family owned and operated 89 A½ acres of Tucker Orchards for 80 years. This land is now known as Fenn Valley Winery. Tom's father was Leo Wadsworth Tucker and his mother, Marguerite Heinen Tucker. Tom is survived by his wife, Joanne, and five children; Larry, Randy, Steve, Mike and Lisa Harjung. Tom and Joanne have five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
