Thelma J. Margot of Lakeside Vista, Holland, MI and formerly of Ganges, MI passed away on February 22, 2013. Born on August 25, 1918, she was the daughter of Walter and Lulu Inez (Caris) Sage. She grew up in Cardington, Ohio and moved to Michigan in 1939 with her husband, Howard, and they spent the rest of their lives on their family farm, raising their family and being involved in church and township activities. Thelma was married for 74 years to her husband, Howard, who passed away 43 days ago. She was a member of the Ganges United Methodist Church and taught in Sunday school, sang in the choir, worked with the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) and served in various local and district positions. In addition to her church activities, she enjoyed reading, working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and working in her flower gardens. Her family remembers many gatherings at her home to enjoy a home-cooked meal and a favorite was the giant pans of buttery popcorn she shared on Sunday evenings. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Myron Sage and Earl Sage. Surviving are her sisters-in-law, Gaynell Sage of Iberia, OH and Dorotha Sage of Greensboro, NC; her children, Janet (Jay) Venema of Grand Rapids, MI, Karen (Glenn) Phelps of Fennville, MI, and Patricia (Jerry) Poole of Battle Creek, MI; her grandchildren, Norman (LaVonne) Venema, Jon (Kim) Venema, Nancy Venema, William (Amy) Phelps, Scott (Robin) Phelps, Brian (Jodie) Phelps, and Coleen Sootsman; eighteen great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Ganges United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Balgenorth and Ms. Marcia Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Plummerville Cemetary. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St., Fennville, MI.
