Obituary

Sonya Lynn Peters Ouendag February 23rd, 1967-September 28th, 2021 Sonya Lynn Ouendag (née Peters), 54, went to be with her Heavenly Father on September 28th, 2021 after a three-year battle with brain cancer. She was born on February 23rd, 1967 in Grand Rapids, MI to Gary and Sandra Peters. An active member of the Fennville United Methodist Church, Sonya spent over 20 years organizing the Christmas Basket Project so that hundreds of local families could receive food and presents during the holiday season. She remained heavily involved in the church until her health no longer allowed. She was a strong, determined and independent woman who instilled those same values in her daughters. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Sonya is survived by her former husband, Michael Ouendag, and their children, Colleen Ouendag and Tori (Melissa Ciccarelli) Ouendag. She is also survived by her parents, Gary (Theresa) Peters, Sandra (Nolan) Peters; siblings Joseph (Jennifer) Peters, Matthew Peters, Hannah Beckwith, and Evan Peters; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Lorraine Peters; grandparents Gordon & Jacquie Peters, George & Mary Hunting, and Robert & Barbara Page. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Ashley for her compassion, kindness, and care in the last few months of her life. A celebration of Sonya's life will be held at Fennville United Methodist Church at 2pm on Sunday, October the 10th. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that memorial donations be made to Allegan County Community Foundation (PO Box 278, Allegan, MI 49010) with donations specified for the Allegan County Food Pantry Collaborative. They can also be made online at www.alleganfoundation.org. Service Details.
