Robert Leland Hutchinson, age 95 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away at his home on Monday, September 28, 2015. Born August 6, 1920 in Fennville, he was the son of Marc and Wilna (Leland) Hutchinson. A graduate of Fennville High School and Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, Robert was an U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Robert retired in 1985, as CEO of Curtice-Burns, formerly Michigan Fruit Canners, proud maker of Thank You Brand a?? pie fillings. Robert was a member of the Christian Science Society of Saugatuck, and active with many boards and committees for the city of Fennville, including the City Council, DDA, Fennville Public Schools Educational Foundation, and anything he thought might help the City of Fennville and the surrounding areas grow and thrive. Surviving are his children; Marc and Mary (Kline) Hutchinson of Great Falls, VA, Leland and Jean (Perkins) Hutchinson of Chicago, IL, Douglas Hutchinson of Los Angeles, CA, Edward and Sarah (Wenk) Hutchinson of Brooklyn, NY, grandson Robert Hutchinson II, and step-grandson Conor Wenk. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith J. Hutchinson on June 22, 2002. His son Marc said, "The words of the Fennville Herald's obituary (1894) of my father's great-grandfather S.I.B. Hutchinson describe my father as well: 'He was ever a friend to the orphan and to those less fortunate than himself. With a willing hand he gave alms. He loved his home and his family loved him. What better testimony would there be of a truly good man, a kind father, an affectionate husband?'" Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Chappell Funeral Home 637 W. Main St. Fennville, MI.
