Obituary

Clois Ray McCarty, age 78, died on January 20, 2010, at Holland Community Hospital. He was born on June 1, 1931 in Drasco, Arkansas, to George & Vada (Davis) McCarty. Ray served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he moved to the Fennville area where he met Irma Jean Barnes. They were married on July 28, 1956 in Ganges, Michigan. Ray worked as a machinist at several companies over the years, including Scotts in Holland, Chase Manufacturing in Douglas, and Rockwell International in Allegan. He was a life long farmer and was the former owner of the Fennville True Value Hardware. He enjoyed his memberships in the Fennville Rod and Gun Club and the Fennville V.F.W. Post 7911, and served on the Fennville Area Fire Department board for many years. Surviving are his wife, Irma McCarty of Fennville, son, Doug and Diane McCarty of Fennville, 3 Grandchildren: Michelle & Travis VanRhee of Otsego, Steven McCarty, and Jacob McCarty, a brother, Junior and Joyce McCarty of Alamo, Texas, sister, Erma Dean and Leon Rackley of Moutainview, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat McCarty, and two sisters, Hazel and Hasel. Services are scheduled for Friday, January 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chappell Funeral Home with Ms. Marcia Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Fennville Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Fennville Rod & Gun Club or the Fennville Area Fire Department.
