Obituary

Michael Norman Hughes August 28, 1976 – February 24, 2026

Michael Norman Hughes, 49, of Fennville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, after a stroke. Born on August 28, 1976, Michael lived a life filled with devotion to his family, pride in his work, and a deep love for the things—and people—that brought him joy.

On January 30, 2004, Michael married the love of his life, Trina Pyburn Hughes. Together, they built a family grounded in loyalty and love. Michael is survived by his wife, Trina, and their children: son Michael “Mike” (Sammi) Hughes, daughters Brittany Hughes and Razalyn Hughes. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Ryley Marie, Gauge Vincent, Holden Gray, Oliver Lee, and Junie Michael, each one holding a special place in his heart.

Michael is also survived by his siblings Michelle (Josh) Bowers, Melisse (Mark Franklin) Hughes, and Matthew (Katie) Hofacker. He was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews: Jesse Hughes; Garrett (Clare) Bowers; Annalissa (Josh) Becco; Baili Bowers; Remington Franklin; Hope Hofacker; Genesis Bowers; Emma Franklin; Dillyn Bowers; Heaven Watson; Haylie Hofacker; Adalynn “Addie” Hofacker; Greyson Hofacker; Harlow Hines; Kimber Hines; and Jameson Hines. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Eugene Hughes; Vicki Lee (Mark) Hofacker; his sister Ruth Ann Hofacker; and his grandparents Norman Hughes, Joyce Hughes, Arnold “Hootch” Jones, and Marian Jones.

Michael took great pride in his work as a machinist at National Bulk Equipment in Holland, Michigan. One of the greatest joys of his career was working alongside his son, Mike Hughes, creating memories and sharing skills that strengthened their bond. Michael’s strong work ethic, attention to detail, and natural mechanical ability made him a highly respected and valued member of his team. He developed many meaningful friendships through his work and was known for always lending a hand when someone needed help.

A loving husband, father, brother, and friend, Michael will be remembered for his steady kindness, humor, and willingness to help anyone who needed a hand. He had a passion for riding motorcycles and found peace on the open road. He loved tinkering with cars—especially older ones—and took particular pride in his ’74 Duster. His love of turning wrenches began early, learning in the garage alongside his dad, who sparked his lifelong passion for working on engines. Michael could often be found in the garage fixing, improving, or simply admiring something with an engine.

Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

Plans are underway for a celebration of Michael’s life near what would have been his 50th birthday, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory. A memorial motorcycle ride will also take place to pay tribute to his love for riding and the peace he found there. Details for both events will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

In keeping with his giving spirit, Michael was an organ and tissue donor with The Gift of Life. His final act of kindness will live on through the lives he touched. Michael’s “Mike” memory will live on in every story shared, every laugh echoed, and every moment spent cherishing the love he gave so freely. May he rest peacefully
