MaryAnn Schlack, 88 of South Haven, MI passed away, surrounded by family, on December 3, 2025. MaryAnn was born in South Haven, MI on February 26,1937 to Robert and Millie Adkin. The family attended the East Casco Evangelical United Brethren Church in Leisure. MaryAnn started her education in Iddles School, a one room schoolhouse. She later attended and graduated from South Haven Public School in 1955. MaryAnn was an Allegan County 4-H member, attended 4-H camp, and was involved in the county teen club. She attended 4-H Club week at Michigan State College. She worked on her family's farm learning life skills which she passed on to her children. MaryAnn married her high school sweetheart, John Schlack, on June 9, 1956. They built a life together around their 6 children and were married for 59 years. They enjoyed camping and travelling and family get togethers. MaryAnn was a housewife, able to stay at home with her kids. She sewed, cooked, cleaned, taught Sunday School, was a 4-H leader, Ladies Aid member, and took care of neighbors' kids. She was like a second mom to some. MaryAnn's faith was tested throughout her life, but it was strong and she shared that faith with her children. MaryAnn loved her family and the rich history of her ancestors. She lived on part of the original Adkin property purchased by her Great Grandfather.
MaryAnn was preceded in death by Her parents Robert and Millie Adkin, Her in-laws Fred and Helen Schlack, Her brother and sister-in-law, Art and Mary Adkin, her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Doyal Northrup, her son-in-law, Jim Liepe, and her loving husband, John Schlack.
Surviving are her children: Dian Liepe, John Jr. (Rhonda) Schlack, Carrie (Fred) Murphy, Robert (Arlene) Schlack, Steve (Irma) Schlack and Timothy Schlack. Grand children: Robert (Jennifer) Liepe, Mark (Wendy) Liepe, Jonathan (Jeanne) Liepe, Cari (Roger) Lucas, Rebecca Hart and Brian (Tara) Liepe, Daniel (Tabitha) Schlack, Toni Schlack, Reagan Schlack, Shyloh Kruger, Fred jr. (Becky) Murphy, Mike Murphy, Matt (Nikki) Murphy, Marcus (Ashley) Murphy, Shaun (Wilma) Murphy, Sara Schlack, Rocco Schlack and Rachelle Schlack. Great Grandchildren: Amanda, Samantha, Alex and Austin, Macie, Seth and Shey, Micah, Rhonda and Harley, Lily, Gabby, Jared and Kameron, Anya, Logan, Scarlett, Jazmyn, Aubree and Bailee, Andie and Cayde, Charley and Weston, Faith, Mecciah, Ashton, Trenton and Corbin, Kaelin and Loghan. Great Great Grandchildren: Bentley and Hudson, Amelia, Dallas and Claire, Marshall, Warren, Archer and Peter, Ramona, Reagan, Lincoln and Logan. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
To celebrate MaryAnn's life, we will gather on Saturday, December 13 at Casco United Methodist Church, 880 66th Street, South Haven, MI 49090. Visitation at 10:00am. Service at 11:00am. A community luncheon will follow a private committal at McDowell Cemetery. The service will also be on YouTube for those unable to attend. Charitable donations may be made to Casco United Methodist Church or Allegan County 4-H.
