IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Alice
Mckeown
June 12, 1925 – September 26, 2025
Mary Alice McKeown, 100, of Fennville, MI, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025. Born June 12, 1925 in Huntington, IN, she was the daughter of the late Luther A. and Bertha (Poe) Plasterer and was the wife of the late Eldon E. McKeown. Growing up on the family farm, Mary learned the value of a strong work ethic at an early age. On the farm her family worked together raising crops of pickles and tomatoes for Heinz. Later, Mary worked for Harris Pie Company and later retired from General Electric after twenty-two years of employment. She enjoyed gardening, even in her spare time, and then canning or cooking with her harvest. Mary also had a knack for photography. One photo that she was particularly proud of was one she had asked to take of Mr. Sherman standing in front of the Sherman Dairy milk truck. He agreed and the family liked it so much that it still hangs on the ice cream shop wall today. Mary was a member of Ganges Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother whose memory will be cherished.
Mary is survived by her children, Joyce Burklow, Debra (Danny) Isom, Kenneth McKeown and Burton McKeown; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Laaksonsen; grandson, Burton E. McKeown; sister, Ruby Olsen; and brother, Floyd Plasterer.
The family will receive friends at Chappell Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 12:00 PM and burial will follow in Plummerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local humane society.
