Marjorie Ellen (Guptill) Griffin

May 6, 1937 – May 25, 2024

Marjorie Ellen (Guptill) Griffin, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless love, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, at the age of 87, in the same town where she first drew breath, Fennville, MI. Born on May 6, 1937, to Arthur and Mildred (Anthomsen) Guptill, she grew to become a pillar of her community, cherished by all who had the fortune of crossing her path.

Marjorie's early life was set against the backdrop of the quaint town of Fennville, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and an enduring love for learning. Graduating proudly from Fennville High School in 1954, she furthered her education by attending college, a testament to her belief in the transformative power of knowledge. Her academic journey led her to a vocation that would define much of her life; she began her career teaching in a small schoolhouse before dedicating many years to the children of Ottawa County, eventually retiring from Waukazoo School.

Her heart found its counterpart in Clair Griffin, and together they embarked on life's journey with joy and devotion. Although Clair preceded her in death, their love story remains a testament to the power of partnership and mutual respect. Marjorie was also preceded by her parents and her siblings, Ralph, and Dorothy, each leaving a void that she filled with memories and honor.

The legacy of Marjorie's love and guidance lives on through her six children: Barb (Richard) Schaefer, Mike (Nancy) Griffin, Betty Rice, Diane Marsman, Ed Griffin, and Karen (Danny) Payne. She was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, roles that she embraced with every ounce of her being, imparting wisdom and instilling values that will ripple through generations.

Marjorie's life was a reflection of her deep commitment to her faith, Lord, and Savior. A proud member of Ganges Baptist Church, she lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and a spirit of generosity that touched all who knew her. She believed in the power of community and the strength found in gathering together in worship and fellowship.

An adventurous soul, Marjorie relished the opportunity to travel with her beloved husband. Together, they explored the world, creating a tapestry of memories that she would fondly recount to her family and friends. Her love for animals was pure and unwavering, and her dog held a special place in her heart, providing companionship and joy throughout her life. Marjorie also found solace and pleasure in knitting.

Described by those who knew her as faith-filled, adventurous, and wise, Marjorie walked through life with a grace that inspired others to seek the good in each day. She faced challenges with a quiet strength and exuded a warmth that drew people to her.

As we bid farewell to Marjorie Ellen (Guptill) Griffin, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that enriched the lives of so many. She was a guiding light, a wellspring of wisdom, and a heart brimming with love. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those she touched. Marjorie's journey on this earth has concluded, but her story—etched in the lives she changed and the love she shared—will endure forever.
