Marion Josephine Stokes, age 88, passed away February 20, 2018 in Grand Haven, Michigan. Born October 22, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, she is the daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine (Olson) Stokes. As a teenager Marion's family moved to Fennville, Michigan. Marion graduated from Fennville High in 1947. She received her BS from Western Michigan University in 1958 and a Master of Arts from Western Michigan University in 1961. In 1963 Marion moved to her home in Grand Haven, Michigan, where she lived until 2014, when she moved into assisted living. Marion would go on to teach at the Grand Haven Public Schools for many years in elementary education. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, loved spending time in the garden, researching her family history, enjoyed traveling and she loved everything Christmas. Marion is survived by her nieces and nephews, James (Tracey) Stokes, Linda (Rod) Ray, Patty (Mark) Wilson; and many great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Stokes; and sister, Dorothy Mullen. Chappell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
