Lois Ruth Muyskens Smiser (VanDenBerg), passed away peacefully in her home town on May 22, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 2, 1944, to Bernard and Alyce VanDenBerg. Lois grew up embracing life with a vigor that would become her signature.
Lois is survived by a loving family that adorns her memory with gratitude and plenty of stories filled with laughter and love. Her brother, Roger (Faye) VanDenBerg, Children; Gary (Norma) Muyskens and Debborah (Kevin) Meschke; her cherished grandchildren; Troy (Robin) Muyskens, Michael Lenhart, George (Katelyn) Muyskens, Kyle (Kiana) Meschke, Valerie (Peter) Vihtelic, Morgan Muyskens, Kory Meschke, Alec Muyskens, Kole Meschke, Hunter Mason, Owen Lenhart and great-grandchildren; Savannah Muyskens, Keiko Meschke, Emery Muyskens, Beckham Vihtelic and new arrival, Michael Joseph Vihtelic, will hold her in their hearts forever.
Predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Alyce VanDenBerg, brother, Jack VanDenBerg her beloved son, David Muyskens, and husband, George Muyskens, with whom she shared 17 years of marriage until his untimely passing in 1979, Lois's spirit now reunites with them in serenity and love.
Lois's passion for sports was unrivaled, especially her dedication to all the Detroit teams. She reveled in the thrill of a game, whether on the golf course, at the bowling alley, or while cheering on her favorite teams. Lois was an avid lover of all animals and enjoyed traveling throughout the country. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and she ignited a love for sports in her family.
Lois's legacy is one of love, laughter, and shared joys through the simple pleasures of life. She was a beacon of warmth and devotion, and her spirit will continue to inspire and live on within her family and all who knew her.
