Hattie Lois Shields, a/k/a Lois H. Shields, went to be with her Lord on January 12, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. Lois was 99 years of age. Lois was born on August 16, 1916, in Gruver, Iowa. Lois' parents were Walter Anderson Creason and Hattie Thomasson Creason. Her dad was a Presbyterian minister and farmer. Her siblings were Walter P. Creason, Mary C. VanVoorhees, Woodrow W. Creason, William M. Creason, Scott Creason and Dorothy L. Tyler. Lois married Theodore John Shields on January 14, 1938. Lois and Ted purchased the family farm in Fennville in 1938. Lois and Ted had five children; Carolyn Marie Frielink, Theodore Roy (Sarah) Shields, William George (Susan) Shields, Bryan Wesley (Marie) Shields and Michael A. Shields. Lois has 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her parents, siblings, husband and daughter preceded her in death. Education was important to Lois. Lois graduated from Western Michigan University, with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Lois was a teacher at Fennville Public Schools for over 22 years and touched the lives of many students. Lois encouraged her children to further their education by going to college and pursuing their life endeavors. Lois loved her family with all her heart, and supported them in many ways. Lois enjoyed spending time with her family and teaching and telling them about life. Lois enjoyed gardening and working on the family farm. Lois had a passion for reading and was a devout Christian. Lois loved her family and her family loved her. Lois will be greatly missed. A private memorial service will be held. A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 296 Hoffman Street, Saugatuck, Michigan 49453. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 633, Saugatuck, Michigan 49453, in the name of Lois H. Shields.
