Obituary

Linnea (Johnson) Thorpe passed away September 3, 2009. She was born August 6, 1911 in Birch, MI to Sofia (Sodergard) Johnson and Axel Johnson. She graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf. Linnea enjoyed fishing up north in Big Bay and off the South Haven pier and spending time with family and friends. She loved to go for walks and pick blueberries. Her family enjoyed her sense of humor, especially when it came with cherry pits, paper wads, and removing and repairing windows and doors. She was a member of Maple Grove Bible Church and more recently attended Glenn United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, 2 sisters and her husband of 54 years, Marlden L. "Barney" Thorpe who passed away in 1991. Surviving Linnea are four daughters, Janet Woodruff, Elizabeth Dell, Gloria Smith, Marlene and Lyle Mitchell. Additionally, 11 grandchildren, Larry, Alecia, Donald, Kenneth, Jeannie, Brian, Greg, Dawn, Michelle, Aaron and Linnea; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great- great- grandchildren survive her. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at the Glenn United Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of the service beginning at 2:00 P.M. Burial will be Friday, September 11, 2009 at l:00 P.M. at the Marquette Park Cemetery, Marquette, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan, Glenn United Methodist Church or the Charity of One's Choice.
