Lester Scott Shaffer, age 104, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Grace of Douglas. Born March 23, 1909 in Holland, Michigan, he was the son of William and Blanche (Scott) Shaffer. Lester was a WW II Army Veteran, and has a certificate saying that he was the oldest surviving WW II Army veteran in Michigan. He was a retired truck driver for TEXACO. Lester was a member of the Saugatuck-Douglas Lions Club for many years, and lived in the Saugatuck Douglas area for over 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline on July 1, 2002, and is survived by one sister Sylvia Kraai of Holland, MI, He was also an amazing uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 2-4 and from 6-8 at the Chappell Funeral Home 637 W. Main St. Fennville, Michigan. At his request cremation will take place after the visitation, and his cremains will be buried in the Douglas Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
