Obituary

Kenneth Leroy Zecklin, 74, of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025, at Meijer Heart center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born June 26, 1951, in Allegan, Michigan, the son of the late George Jr. and Wanda (Gillispie) Zecklin.

Ken joined the U.S. Navy in 1969 right after High School. After completing his service, he returned to the local area and worked at Hart & Cooley, in Holland, for 26 years, spending most of those years repairing Hi-Los. Ken was the owner/operator of KZ Small Engine Repairs in Ganges Township for 30 years. Ken also worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for 12 years with American Medical Response.

Ken's volunteer work was important to him. He was a member of Ganges Fire Department and was a first responder, rising to captain, safety officer, and in charge of the first responders. Upon death, Ken was a Gift of Life donor.

August 22, 1970, Ken married his love, Frances Thorne. Fran was from a Maple Syruping family and Ken became a Maple Syrup producer for over 50 years, widely known in the community.

Ken and Fran enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the states. They also enjoyed spending the winters as snowbirds. They were members of Michigan Good Sam Club, which is a recreational vehicle club. Ken was the safety officer from 2017-2022 and president since 2018 of chapter 52. Ken was a lifelong member of the Bravo Community Church, serving as a deacon and elder.

Ken loved driving his John Deere lawn equipment with his dog Minnie, a constant companion and best friend by his side.

Along with his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sister Sandra J. (Zecklin) DeBoer, and his brother, Robert L. Zecklin. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Frances (Thorne) Zecklin, his two daughters, Devi (Duane) Davis and Dawn (Rick) Strasser; grandchildren: Matthew Artis, David (Samantha Plott) Artis, Curston (Dax) Weyrick, Devin Davis, Delcie Katie Hoggard, Joey (Amanda) Hoggard, also his siblings; John (Julie) Zecklin, Max (Chris) Zecklin, and Linda (Joe) Christopher. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Ken will be deeply missed by all that knew him and loved him.

Services will be held Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Bravo Community Church, 5587 113th Ave., Fennville, Michigan 49408

Visitation starts at 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm.
