Karen Louise Fazer (Skurkis)

November 18, 1946 – November 12, 2024

Karen Louise Fazer (Skurkis), a cherished matriarch and friend to many, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, in Holland, Michigan. Born on November 18, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, Karen lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to her family, friends, and community.

Karen was preceded in death by her loving parents, Stan and Rose (Nolte) Hillstorm, her devoted husband of 27 years, Charles Fazer. Her legacy of love and wisdom is carried on by her children, Robert (Michelle) Goodell, Jeff (Charlotte) Goodell, and Denise (Fazer) Mann. Her brother, Stan (Jori) Hillstorm, also survives her, as do her numerous grandchildren and the countless great and great-great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.

For over three decades, Karen served her community as a bus driver, a role that allowed her to connect with and impact the lives of countless individuals. She was not just a driver but a confidant and friend to those she transported, often going above and beyond to ensure everyone felt safe and valued.

Karen's interests were as expansive as her heart. She poured love into her family, cooking up her famous recipes that will be remembered and recreated for generations. Her gardens were a testament to her nurturing spirit, and her love for animals knew no bounds, she especially loved dogs and horses. Karen was also known for her ability to 'collect people' on both sides of the family, taking them in as her own, never turning away anyone who needed a place to stay. They will always be a part of the family, as Karen would always say "Once family, always family".

Karen was the pillar of wisdom in her family, always ready to offer advice with a balance of realism and kindness. She may not have always been politically correct, but her intentions were pure, and her declaration of love was never in doubt.

Karen's wisdom was matched only by her capacity for love. She was a beacon of warmth and guidance, a person who could always be turned to in times of need. Her presence was a comfort, her laughter a balm, and her advice a treasure that will be sorely missed.

Those who knew Karen will remember her as loving and wise, a woman who lived her truth with a generous heart and open arms. She was a force of nature, unapologetically herself, and she left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we bid farewell to Karen Louise Fazer, we celebrate an extraordinarily well-lived life. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and her memory will be cherished forever. Rest in peace, dear Karen, until we meet again.

Karen's Funeral will be on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, at 12:00pm with two hours of visitation before from 10:00am - 12:00pm at Chappell Funeral Home in Fennville, Michigan. Burial to follow with procession to Pearl Cemetery.
