Joan R. Caauwe, age 83 years, Eleven months and 21 days, of Fennville, died early Saturday morning, September 14, 2013 at the Hospice House of Holland. The daughter of Frederick C. and Ruth E. (Pillinger) Krekel, Joan was born on September 23, 1929 in Grand Rapids. Joan was a painter her entire life but for about 10 years she also worked for the Ottawa Beach Inn. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holland. Joan was always known for her many Blue Ribbon paintings at local fairs, she loved playing Bridge, visiting with her friends at her retirement community and going fishing. Joan is survived by her children; Ruth (Michael) Hoezee of Hamilton and Miles Baskett of Holland, a grandchild, Glenn (Candace) Walters and great grandson Landon, as well as three other grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Caauwe, in 1985 and her daughter, Elizabeth Walters, in 1990. Honoring her wishes, no services will be held and burial will take place privately at Lakewood Cemetery in Park Township.
