Obituary

Janet Marie Stappenbeck of Fennville, Michigan passed away at home on September 4, 2024. Janet Marie Kirchner was born in Fulda, Minnesota, October 19, 1933, to her parents, Joseph P. and Marie C. (Gotmer) Kirchner.

Janet graduated from Fulda High School with the class of 1951. She earned her Registered Nurse degree from McKinnon Hospital School of Nursing, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Janet graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Anesthesiology, Minneapolis, Minnesota as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She was employed by St. Mary's after graduation

Janet's parents relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan and she joined the family and was employed by Dr. Robert Armstrong's Anesthesiology Group also working for him at Bronson and Borgess Hospitals.

After marriage and moving to Fennville, Michigan. Janet was active in the family business (Fennville Thermogas), and busy taking care of their three children. As her children got older Janet returned to work at Allegan General Hospital as a Psychiatric Nurse. After retiring from there she worked for a short time for the Allegan Medical Care Facility.

Janet was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas. She served on the board of Sylvias Place in Allegan and volunteered at the Food Pantry at Christian Neighbors. She especially enjoyed playing Bridge with a regular group of friends. She was a member of National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), and a member of Radiant Rebekah Lodge 307 of Fennville.

Janet enjoyed her home on Hutchins Lake and Kayaking with her friends. Monday evenings during the summer you could find her maneuvering her pontoon boat to tie up with other friend's pontoons so they could enjoy catching up on all the latest news and enjoying a potluck supper together.

Surviving are her daughter Judy Skinner, (Adam Aguilar), grandchildren; Scott (Katie) Skinner, and Krystalin Skinner (Stephen Blink), great-grandchildren; Chase, Ashton, Orion, and Scout Skinner. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph (Lois) Kirchner, Howard (Jacqualin) Kirchner, and sons, Mark and David Stappenbeck.

Janet's memorial service will be at Chappell Funeral Home located on 637 West Main Street, Fennville, MI 49408, for Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, from 2:00pm – 3:00pm officiated by Pastor Carlos Lopez with an hour visitation beforehand. Private graveside to take place following the service and a luncheon at the Fennville United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fennville Public Schools Education Foundation Moeller Scholarship Fund.
