Obituary

Rev. James Wallace Curtis, 85, of Fennville, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at his home. Born in St. Louis, Mo., he was a retired episcopal priest having served All Saints' Episcopal Church, Christ Church in Gary, Ind., and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Hobart, Ind. He had also served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy Reserves. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in submarines in World War II in the Pacific. In his retirement he found the time, energy and commitment to become a Triathlete. Among others, he compeleted Ironman races in Hawaii and Japan. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann; children James Jr. and Helen Curtis of Indianapolis, Ind., Robert and Jamie Curtis of Arlington, Texas, Betsy and Clyde Anderson of Denver, Colo., Helen and Bob Foster of L'Anse, and Dottie Curtis of Fennville; l4 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert and Ellen Johnson of Fennville; and many nieces and nephews. Services are l p.m. Friday, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Saugatuck with the Rev. G. Corwin Stoppel and Rt. Rev. Robert Gepert officiating. Burial will be in Plummerville Cemetery. Visiting is 7 to 9 p.m. today at All Saints Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Holland, All Saints Episcopal Church or The Pier Cove Ravine Trust (269 543-4444).
