Obituary

Gwendolyn Osgood Shaw, age 89, of Ganges died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Holland Community Hospital. Born November 28, 1920 in Oak Park, IL, she was the daughter of Ralph B. and Elizabeth (Gair) Osgood and the step-daughter of Emma Osgood. She was a kindergarten schoolteacher at the Fennville Public Schools for 25 years. She was a member of the Community Church of Douglas and a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where she met her husband, A. Louis Shaw. She lived on the Michigan lakeshore her entire adult life and especially loved sharing the beach with her friends and family. She was also an avid bridge player for over 50 years and enjoyed knitting and raising English Setters. Surviving are her two sons, Gregory and Ann Shaw of East Lansing, Michigan, Ralph and Freida Shaw of Comstock Park, Michigan, and a very special "adopted" son, Gary Hooverson of Commerce Lake, Michigan. She also has 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and one brother, John and Barbara Osgood of Lakeland, Florida. Her husband, A. Louis Shaw preceded her in death in 1982. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 3-5 p.m. at the Chappell Funeral Home, in Fennville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Community Church in Douglas, Michigan with Dr. Daniel N. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Plummerville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Al-Van Humane Society or the Community Church of Douglas. An online registry book is available at www.chappellfuneralhome.com
