Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) was born on December 26, 1942, in Detroit to Virginius and Kathleen Polk. He passed away on Sunday, September 14th after enjoying a day full of family and friends.

During his younger years, Jerry grew up in Parisville, MI attending St. Mary's Catholic School. He grew up with extended family, as his grandparents owned an egg hatchery in Parisville. He met the love of his life, Kathleen Tubbs at a Christmas party in the Parisville area over a Swedish Christmas drink.

They were married on June 22, 1963, and made their home in Mt. Clemens, MI.  The older four children, "Little" Jerry, Alan, Steven and Stacy were born in the Detroit area.  In 1966, they moved their young family to Fennville to be closer to Kathy's parents. Their family blossomed with the additions of Ryan, Sherri, Jamie and Shelly.  During these years, they were members of St. Peters Catholic Church in Douglas.

Jerry worked at Bohn Aluminum in South Haven from the time they arrived in Fennville until its closing in 1996. Him and Kathy also owned an asparagus field, and you would see him on the tractor and his wife and kids in the field every summer afternoon. He continued to work at NAPA auto parts for several years sharing his wisdom and love of cars.  You could always find Jerry working on a car in the garage or driveway.

Jerry and Kathy are well known for their always present spectatorship cheering on their children, grandchildren and the community of Fennville.  They never missed a game and attended several sporting events into their later years.

Not only did Jerry father 8 children but also welcomed many other teens and young adults into their home. Those that needed a place to stay whether for a couple nights, months or even years.  Jerry and Kathy could never turn anyone away that needed help. (This includes the many cats) They were also the home that many kids congregated to after a game or on weekends.

Jerry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Tigers and enjoyed watching their games with his sons. Additionally, he showed his support for the Wolverines by wearing maize and blue on game days.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Allan, his son, Gerald, his great grandson, Braylon and his wife, Kathy.  He leaves behind his children.  Alan (Tammy), Steven, Stacy, Ryan, Sherri (Mike) Pierce, Jamie and Shelly Polk. His 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
