Freda H. Sargent, age 88, of Fennville, Michigan passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Holland Hospital. Born September 10, 1925 in Ganges township, Freda was the daughter of Ray and Margaret (Hirner) Haan. Freda lived in the Fennville area all her life, and was a member of the Ganges Baptist Church. Freda lived a long, productive life. During WWII, she worked at Bohn Aluminum in South Haven. After the war she was employed at Hart and Cooley and Michigan Fruit Canners. A few years after the birth of her third child, she began work at the pie factory in Saugatuck where she remained for 26 years. After retiring from the pie factory, she enjoyed part-time work at Harbors Health Care. Outside of work, she assisted on the family farm, cared for her family, helped care for Ganges township cemeteries and made sure no one ever went hungry. She made a difference in many lives and was always willing to volunteer and help others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Sargent, on February 20, 2008. Surviving are her children: Dennis M. Sargent of Jackson, Susan M. Wozniak of Holland, Phil Sargent and Leora Bennett of Fennville, and Loren and Rebecca Sargent of Fennville. Freda is also survived by three grandchildren--Ken and Julie Wozniak, Nikole and Jaime DeLeon, and David Sargent, and by four great-grandchildren--Madeline Irene Wozniak and Abraham, Aylene, and Azaylea DeLeon. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ganges Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Case officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery, Ganges township.
