Obituary

Franziska (Frances) Byk passed away peacefully at home and went to heaven on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023, she was 94 years old. She was born in Seewiesen, Germany to Laurenz and Anna Schreiner March 7, 1929. For more than 50 years, Frances was a devout member of St Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas, Michigan. During that time, she attended countless masses, funerals, baptisms, weddings, picnics, Crop Walks, pilgrimages, and fundraisers. She often sang in the choir and attended bingo night at St. Peter's to help raise money to pay for the building's mortgage. She also helped maintain one of the outdoor Stations of the Cross. She was a friend to many animals with feathers, hooves, and paws. Frances was an active, dedicated Lay Member of the Carmelites of St. Peter, the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima and a founding member of St. Peter's Shepards of Christ. Frances had PERSONALITY! She had a wonderful way of putting people at ease. She was down to earth, modest, a fine listener and always had a little bit of wit to offer that often caught people off guard. Most people never left her home without a smile. In the last two years of her life, Frances was aided by two wonderful care givers (Brandy Zachery and Rachel DeWitt), who treated her with great expertise, kindness, and love. Their help and assistance allowed her to live comfortably in her own home until her death. Midge Bernard was also a constant companion and great friend. The family will always be grateful.

Frances is survived by her two sons, Laurenz Jan (Patricia Marie) Byk and Daniel Byk; two grand-children Rita Lorraine Byk and Stefanie Renee Byk; and one great-granddaughter, Aliyah.

She is preceded in death by her son Wasyl Alexander Byk.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas, Michigan on January 4, 2024, at 10:00am. A one-hour visitation at the Church will begin at 9:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Christian Neighbors of Douglas at 6874 Wiley Road, Fennville, MI 49408. You may also donate online at www.christianneighborsdouglas.org/donate .
