Obituary

Eugene Keith Plummer, 88, a long time winter resident of Hemet, California and summer resident of Fennville, MI died May 13, 2008 in Denver Colorado. Mr. Plummer, known as Bud to his family and friends, was born in Ganges, Michigan on July 10, 1919. He attended grammar school in Ganges, Michigan, High School in St. Louis Missouri and college at Michigan State. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was assigned to the USS Constitution for temporary duty before making one convoy trip to Murmansk Russia. He was one of 46 survivors from the 156 men on the USS Truxton when it ran aground and sunk off Newfoundland in February of 1942. He than served in the Pacific for the remainder of World War Two on the USS Aulick which was hit by two Kamikaze planes and seven shore battery artillery shells. Mr. Plummer was a veteran of WW II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. He retired a Master Chief Machinist Mate in 1965. He than worked as a correctional Officer for the California Rehabilitation Center in Corona, California. He was married to Janie Lucille Wilson of Anderson South Carolina from 1946 until her death in 1988. He married Anita Lucille Green of Fennville, MI in 1993, Anita died in 2004, leaving him a widower for a second time. He leaves one son Eugene Wilson, two grandsons: Eric Arthur and Wraymond Keith, and two great grandchildren: Ethan Brandt and Reese Alexia. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Ganges Baptist Church at the corner of 66th St. and 122nd Ave. in Ganges. Visiting will be from 12:00 Noon till service time, officiating will be Pastor Thomas Case, and burial will be in the Plummerville Cemetery.
