Emerson L. "Emer" Pugh, age 76, of Holland, died on July 13, 2013 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Emer was born on October 16, 1936 in Lansing to Emerson and Marion (Johnson) Pugh, Sr. Upon graduation from Lansing Eastern High School (class of '55) Emer enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1955-1958 serving in the 354th Air Police Squadron stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC. Emer ("Lee Emerson" on-air) was a well known local radio personality primarily with WJOR in South Haven and WHTC in Holland. Throughout the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's he entertained audiences with creative programming and passionate dedication to his craft. He also broadcast over 1800 local sporting events during this period. Emer loved music and was a talented musician specializing in the drums, trumpet, and even a little singing. He enjoyed decades of performing at area clubs, restaurants, weddings and anywhere good music could be heard. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Florence Peterson and together they enjoyed 43 years of marriage until her death in 2005. Emer is loved and survived by his son, Aaron (Eileen) Pugh of Atlanta, Georgia, his siblings; Karen Smith of Portage, Niccole Wetherall of Portage, Erik Pugh of Decatur, Kristy Wittum of Kalamazoo and Kurt Pugh of Kalamazoo. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a sister, Judy Jensen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St., Fennville with Pastor Ralph Houston officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Emerson's name may be given to the American Cancer Society; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
