Obituary

Ellen W. Johnson, age 77 of Fennville, Michigan, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at Golden Orchards Assisted Living in Fennville. Born April 28, 1931, she was the daughter of Charles and Mildred Williams. Ellen, was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society, long time benefactor of the Red Barn Theatre, supporter of the Saugatuck Center of the Arts, member of the Pier Cove Ravine Trust Association, a benefactor to the South Western Michigan Underwater Preserve Society which accomplished in 1999 the designation of the 10th official off-shore underwater preserve and in 2001 the designated site of clay banks in the Lake Michigan waters off of Pier Cove officially named for her son John Butler Johnson II; she supported the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association. She and her husband Robert also owned and operated the Porches Bed and Breakfast in Pier Cove, till 2003. Surviving are his children Lynne J. Fabian of Fennville, Sharon E. Johnson of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren Christopher and Dorothy Fabian and Jeffery Aron; great-grandson Lucian James Fabian; sisters Marion Marshall and Polly Fuller; sister-in-law Mary Ann Curtis. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Johnson, son John B. Johnson, and son-in-law John Fabian. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at All Saints Episcopal Church 212 Grand St. Saugatuck, MI, with Fr. G. Corwin Stoppel officiating.
