Elizabeth V. Schmidt, age 95, of Douglas, Michigan, died peacefully Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Golden Orchards Assisted Living, in Fennville, Michigan. Born July 27, 1916 in Peoria, Illinois, she was the daughter of William and Aurelia (Briskey) Newsam. Betty married her husband of 76 years, William J. Schmidt on October 11, 1935. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Marilyn Elliott and one grandson. She is survived by her children Jack (Betty) Schmidt of Douglas; Keith (Belinda) Schmidt of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Betty was a member of the Community Church Douglas, Masonic Eastern Star, P.E.O. and Saugatuck Women's Club. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, at the Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St. Fennville, Michigan. Interment will be in the Douglas Cemetery.
