Eleanor G. Szkopiec, age 81, of Holland, Michigan, formerly of Fennville, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the Hospice House in Holland. Born September 8, 1929 in Dorr, Michigan, she was the daughter of Arthur and Louise (Miller) Harbeck. Moving to Fennville at the age of two, she attended the Peachbelt School, and graduated from Fennville High School in 1948, after which she attended Western Michigan University and took continuing education classes from Michigan State. On May 8, 1976, she married Matthew Szkopiec and resided in the Fennville area until moving to Holland in February of 2000. Eleanor spent 38 years working for Fennville Public School in the administration area, and became the school business manager, retiring in 1986, then she was appointed the Ganges Township Clerk, for several years. Eleanor was a member of the Ganges United Methodist Church, and served on various church board offices, a life member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, serving as President, Secretary, and Treasurer, also serving on the School Employees Credit Union Board. Eleanor enjoyed reading, crafts, sewing, and the time spent traveling with Matt, throughout the United States and Canada. Surviving is her husband Matt, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, three half sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2011, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 pm, and funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Chappell Funeral Home 637 W. Main St. Fennville, MI. Officiating will be Ms. Marcia Tucker, and burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
