Elaine Hellen Lewis, 85, of Fennville, passed away on December 30, 2023, at Resthaven Care Center in Holland, Michigan. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 28, 1938, to Frank and Lotti (Faifer) Piantek. Elaine's journey through life was marked by her thoughtful nature and strong independence, traits that endeared her to all who were privileged to cross her path.

Elaine dedicated 19 years of her life to the safety and care of children as a bus driver for Fennville Public Schools. She also worked at local restaurants including the Blue Goose Cafe, Fennville's beloved gathering spot.

Elaine found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. An avid puzzle enthusiast, she could often be found piecing together intricate designs, a testament to her patience and attention to detail. Her culinary talents were well-known among her family and friends; Elaine's kitchen was a place of gathering, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of home-cooked meals. Bird watching was another passion, especially the delicate finches that frequented her garden, their presence a constant source of delight.

A matriarch in her own right, Elaine's legacy is cherished by her loving son, Scott (Michelle) August, and her adoring seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her memory is also treasured by her very dear friend, Paulette Clouse. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Paul Piantek and Frank Piantek, Jr.

Those who knew Elaine will remember her as the epitome of thoughtfulness and generosity. A truly selfless soul, she consistently placed the needs of others before her own, offering unwavering support and kindness. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends, who are left to celebrate the immeasurable impact she made on their lives.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
