Obituary

Diane C. "Dee" Wesbey, 82, of Naples passed away September 17, 2014 after putting up a gallant fight against Progressive Supranuclear Palsy over a period of many years. She was gently cared for by the staff at Lakewood Manor Care with assistance from Avow Hospice. The daughter of Laurence and Mary Chandos, Dee, as she was affectionately called, was born in Chicago, IL on February 13, 1932. She was raised in Riverside, IL where she attended grade school and graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School as a member of the National Honor Society. She later became President of the R-B Alumni Association. Dee continued her education at Northern Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb, IL, now known as Northern Illinois University, where she received her BA in Education. While home for the holidays, visiting her high school, she met her future husband, George, who was then a teacher at R-B. Their first date was at the old "O' Henry Ballroom "They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last August and enjoyed dancing throughout their married life. Parenting became a principle focus in her life in raising sons George and Tim. She later returned to Junior High education in Lyons, IL, teaching math, science, computer skills and physical education. She was an ardent skier and golfer, challenging many of the Rocky Mountain and California ski areas. Dee, along with husband George, retired to their summer home in Michigan in 1987 and became active in the politics of their rural community and county. This led to her becoming the President of the Allegan County Republican Women's Club and Delegate to the state convention. Her greatest passion was for her flowers and flowering trees which adorned her lakefront property. This led to her seeking help from her many friends to beautify the Lee Twp. Cemetery every spring. In 2003, she and her husband sought relief from the harsh winters of Michigan, and purchased a condominium in The Glades C.C. in Naples. In 2008, they sold their Michigan home and moved to Florida permanently, where she became President of The Glades Ladies Golf Association. Dee is survived by husband, George Wesbey; sons, Timothy and George; grandchildren, Allison Fowler, Chad Wesbey, Andrew Fowler, Dylan Wesbey, Clarissa Wesbey and George Wesbey VI. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry. The family will receive guests on Tuesday, September 23rd from 2-4PM at the 19th Hole of the Glades Country Club.
