Claude Donald Rummer, 82, of Fennville, Michigan passed away on May 21st, 2024. He was born on August 3rd, 1941, to Lorraine (Mikkelson) Lyons and Richard Rummer in Hart, Michigan. He graduated from Montague High School in 1959. It is there that he met the love of his life, Patricia Janice Usiak. They married on June 18, 1966. Claude went on to serve in the Navy for two years following high school and then attended Central Michigan University where he received his bachelor's degree in education and later his master's in administration. His first teaching job was in Alpena, Michigan as a history teacher. He then moved on to Marlette to become an Athletic Director. After one year there, the family moved to Grandville, Michigan where he was Athletic Director and Assistant Principal for several years. Later, he moved to Roscommon, Michigan to become Principal. His last job in administration was as High School Principal in Fennville, Michigan where he retired. Claude was a fabulous cook and baker, enjoyed travelling, fishing in Canada with his buddies, golfing, taking care of his vehicles, serving at church as a lector and attending a Men's Bible Study. He served on the Fennville DDA and the Fennville School Board. He also had the privilege of being the mayor of Fennville for a few years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was always joking around with them. Claude was a caregiver to Pat for most of their married lives.
Claude is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his mother, Lorraine Lyons; father, Richard Rummer; stepfather, James Lyons; brother-in-law, Russell Eilers; and sister-in-law, Janet Rummer.
He is survived by his brother, Richard (Dick) Rummer; sisters, Paula Eilers and Kay (Larry) Jancek; daughters, Christine (Brian) Hren, and Catherine Rummer and her significant other, Ed Daniel; grandchildren, Madison (James) Pobocik-Hren, Caleb Hren, and Olivia Hren. He also leaves behind his special friend, Rona Howell.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas, Michigan on Tuesday, May 28th from 9-11am. Funeral Mass will be at 11am with a luncheon to follow. A graveside service will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Rothbury, Michigan following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Peter's Catholic Church of Douglas.
