Charles Henry Wishart, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday September 13, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Charles (Chuck) was born on March 5, 1937, on the family farm in Granger, Indiana to Henry and Dorothy Wishart. He later moved with his parents to New Port Richey, Florida as a teenager. After high school he was employed as a heavy vehicle driver.
He met the love of his life Alice Becker and they married in 1961. In 1962 he was drafted into the Army. He served two years in the service, primarily at the White Sands Missile Base in New Mexico. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
After discharge the young couple moved to Edwardsburg MI and started a family. In 1976 they moved to the Fennville area where he owned and operated the Douglas building Center for many years, later working for Straatsma and Associates as a manufacturer’s representative until his retirement.
Chuck was a talented carpenter that could build and fix just about anything. After retirement he spent several years as the maintenance/handyman at the Beach- Way Resort in Douglas MI while Alice worked the front desk. They were active members at the Westshore Golf Club in Douglas as well as the Cowhill Yacht club where he served as Commodore.
They spent many years in retirement as snowbirds living in Bradenton Florida for the winter months and spending their summers back in Michigan. They eventually moved to Florida full time, where they developed many lasting friendships before moving back to Michigan recently to be closer to family.
Charles had a quick wit and was often the life of the party wherever he went. He loved camping and hunting with family and friends. He was a hard worker and spent many years volunteering for Special Olympics and other causes close to his heart. He was a true patriot who loved and honored his country. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved him.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Dorothy Wishart; siblings Virginia Lakutis, Florence Gordon, Margaret Brock, Juanita Starkweather and Horace Wishart.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Alice (Becker) Wishart. Children: Michele (Kurt) Dykstra and Charles (Jennifer) Wishart Jr., Grandchildren Andrew Dykstra and Laura (Ethan) Guiboche, Brother Dave (Pat) Wishart, and Sister-in-Law Dorothy Applebach as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the American House of Holland and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate and professional care.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 10, 2026, at the Fennville United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Fennville Cemetery.
