Catherine "Kitty" Cassar (NaNa) Hughes, 84 of Douglas, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 in Saugatuck Township at her daughters's home. Born in Birkirkara, Malta to Joseph Cassar and Giovanna Ciantar, she resided in the Detroit area from 1949 to 1980, when moving to Douglas, MI. She had been a homemaker and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Women's Club, the Saugatuck -Douglas Art Club and the Maltese Society of the Detroit Area. She was involved with Christian Neighbors and Evergreen Commons. She was preceded in death by her husband Allan, in 1995, also by a brother Carmel Cassar and sisters Rita Barbara and Marie Walker. Surviving are her children, Stephen and Tanya Hughes Sheridan of Saugatuck, Dennis and Helen Hughes Robbins of Nashville, TN, and Kevin Marin and Catherine Hughes of St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands; grandchildren, Brendt Sheridan, Aaron Sheridan, James and Carly Sheridan, Corey Robbins, Trevor Robbins, Monica Marin, Alex Marin, Sean Marin Mara Marin, and Liam Marin; sisters, Doris Pace and Jane Zammit and a brother, Philip Cassar all of Malta; sister-in-laws Marian Cassar of Dearborn Heights, and Pat and Dennis Shipley of Saugatuck ;niece Denise Shipley and Randy Mellon of Saugatuck; many more nieces and nephews in Malta. A memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas, MI. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck, with a reception to follow at the church hall. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Holland, The Saugatuck Womens Club, Saugatuck-Douglas Art Club, St. Peter's Catholic Church, or Evergreen Commons.
