On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Catherine "Cookie" Rose Madejczyk went to be with our creator after a brave battle with cancer. Born March 7, 1954, in Lansing, MI; she had lived in DeWitt since 1988 with her husband Joseph "Sonny" C. Madejczyk (married 36 years) where they raised two sons: Eric and Joseph.

As her sons progressed through elementary school, she began working for the DeWitt Public School system in the K.I.D.S. daycare program. When they were older, she moved to help younger children and special needs students as a teacher's aide and later a paraprofessional until her retirement in 2015. Throughout her life and retirement, she enjoyed craft shows, concerts, travel, and family. Cookie had a caring and giving soul and was always there for her family whatever the need.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Mary Jane Herig, stepfather: Cecil Ray Herig, brother: Donald Keith Karns and nephew: Damon Panasiewicz. She is survived by her husband, sons, brother: Harvey James Karns (Patricia) of Punta Gorda, FL, sisters: Dixie Panasiewicz (Bruce) of Mason, MI, Ellen Bushnell (Terry) of Holt, MI, Patricia Frees (Brian) of Ocala, FL, brothers-in-law: Kenneth Madejczyk (Dianne) of Grandville, MI, Daniel Madejczyk (Ursula) of Buchanan, MI, nieces: Shelly, Carrie, Laurie, Lauren, Kimberly, Wendy, and Felicia, nephews: Scott, Jason, Blaine and Albert.

An informal graveside service, at Taylor Cemetery in Ganges, MI, with celebration of her life will be held on August 26th at 1:30p.m. For more information, email Sonny at: madjyk@comcast.net
