Andrew Riley Leach, 86, died at his home August 13, 2004. He leaves his wife of 60 years Ruth (Hosteter) Leach, daughter Sara Merriam, sons Alphaeus and Phyllis Leach, Nathan and Diane Leach, Jeffrey and Kathleen Leach, Timothy and Rebecca Leach, and Quintin Leach, Daughter in-law Charlene Leach, Son-in-law Ron Merriam, sister Nella and Wm. Wanner, and cousins Merle and Ersole Ransom, Edith Ransom, Marge Schuster and Dorothy Newman. He was preceded in death by daughter Janna, sisters Cretora Goodin DeWind and Edna Goodin, and brother Gilbert Leach. He is also survived by brothers and sister-in-law Edward Hoster, Mary Patchen, Martha and Art Cummings, Robert and Sylvia Hosteter, Verna and Mickey McCoy, and Ivan Orr. He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, and extended family added joy to the life of Riley. He was born on a fruit farm in Ganges Twp. of Western Allegan Co. and spent most of his growing years in Douglas with a brief time in California during the Depression. "Rip" graduated from Saugatuck High School, and not too many years ago former classmates still remembered watching the 4 foot 9 1/2 inch basketball player. "Riley" worked as a machinist during WWII at Lidell's in Ypsilanti, and as an auto mechanic at Jenning's Garage in Douglas. "Shorty" was an equipment operator and truck driver with his brother-in-law Ray Goodin and for West Shore Construction and Getman's. "Andy" retired in 1979 from Padnos where he was a crane operaror for 26 years. He had good memories of his work experiences and those he worked with and for. His testimony of having received forgivness through faith in Jesus Christ remains as an encouragment for us who remain for a time. His life was enriched with long-lasting and far-reaching bonds of fellowship through his involvement with the Church of God (7th day). There will be a special time of remembrance and thanksgiving for "Dad's" place in our lives. Friends, neighbors and family are welcome to join us on Aug. 22nd, 2p.m. at the family homestead, 2893 64th St. (S.E. of Douglas). For those who would like to share a thought but won't be attending, we welcome your notes or e-mails to any family member or you may use triform@i2k.com
