Obituary

Albert Wayne Overhiser, 91, of Pullman, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at his home. He was a life long resident of Casco Township and a member of the Casco United Methodist Church. He was born December 17, 1916 on the Trowbridge Farm at the home of his mother's parents on Phoenix Road East of South Haven. In 1935, he graduated from South Haven High School where he was a very talented baseball player having batted 414 his senior year. After High School, he and two friends ventured over to Detroit and Albert took a job hauling cars. In 1939, he married June Evans who passed away on March 3, 1997 after an extended illness. He was a unique individual and always used his sense of humor to deal with adversity and life's challenges. He was the fourth generation operator of the family fruit farm and drove truck throught his working years. He served as Casco Township Clerk for 30 years having succeeded his father William and preceded his son Allan in that position. He was a lifetime member of the Michigan State Horticultural Society, a member of the Casco Township Fire Dept. and Casco Softball Team. Surviving are his three sons Martin (Lucy) Overhiser of Marshall, Charles (Dorothy) Overhiser of Las Cruces, NM and Allan (Kim) Overhiser of Casco Township; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Doris Adkin of Durham, NC Janet Brown of Spring Lake; brother William (Barbara) Overhiser of Kalamazoo. Preceding him were his parents William and Edna, brothers Kenneth and Edward Overhiser. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at the Casco United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. David Meister officiating. Burial will be in McDowell Cemetery, Casco Township.
