Obituary for Marvin Lynne Burd

Marvin Lynne Burd
Marvin Burd passed away peacefully at Holland Hospital surrounded by family after a long battle with the effects of diabetes on May 2, 2018. He was born January 4, 1926 in Otsego, MI to H. Kirk and Beryl Burd. He had many fond memories as a young boy playing along the shores of Lake Michigan in Ganges Township, on his parent’s property. Marv joined the Navy and served during WWII. He married Jean Burd on June 23, 1946. His career in management took them and their 3 sons to adventurous places to live in Thailand, Turkey, Iran and Washington DC. Later in life he settled back in Saugatuck, MI where he worked in real estate. Marv spent his energies on becoming an expert on the game of Bridge and honing his artistic abilities on his Cigar Band Fish Art. He will be fondly remembered for his cheerful disposition.

Marvin is survived by his three sons, Stephen (Marsha) Burd, Douglas Burd and Mark (Joyce) Burd; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Burd; sister, Shirley Gilman; and great grandson, Grant Burd.

Services will be held at Chappell Funeral Home, 637 W. Main St. Fennville, MI 49408, on Monday, May 7. Visitation will begin at 1 PM, with service at 2 PM. Burial will follow at the Plummerville Cemetery in Ganges Township. After burial you are invited to share your memories of Marv at the home of Stephen Burd, 2170 Lakeshore Dr. Fennville, MI 49408. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grant Rogers Burd Memorial Fund held at the Allegan County Community Foundation to support local community recreation, 524 Marshall St. Allegan MI 49010, memo: Grant, or visit: http://alleganfoundationorg.fatcow.com/Grant-Rogers-Burd-Memorial-Fund
